Changes to Novice Grading Rules

The membership voted to accept all the following changes to the 2006/7 Novice Grading rules.

At present, the rule promoting people out of Novice grade mean that there will be insufficient Novices left to run a viable championship in 2008. We have already made a one off change so only the winner of the 2007 National Production Final became ineligible for novice. The following relaxations in the Novice grading rules are proposed to be introduced for the 2008 Nationals. Members were asked vote by their Area Co-ordinator by 22 September 2007. The votes are being collected and the result will be announced when they are all in.

Proposal 1
The rule which says that anyone who has competed in one or more individual classes at the Nationals in
any two years is ineligible for Novice shall be replaced by “Anyone who has finished in the top 50 in one or more open individual classes at the Nationals in any two years in the last 20 years is ineligible for Novice.”

Proposal 2
The rule which says “Anyone who has raced in a Nationals Production final.” is ineligible for Novice shall be replaced by “Anyone who has won the Nationals Production championship is ineligible for Novice.”

NOTE
Proposal 1
The main point of (1) is to prevent too many people disqualifying themselves form Novice in future. It will also allow the following currently active drivers back in to Novice Falcon - Alan Bevan, Chris Church, Chris Cowan, Steve Francis,  Bill Jenner, Stan Kirk, Mac Miles, Julian Perkins, Mike Perkins, Graham Sampson, Clive Wyeth *
The present rule requires us to work out who has raced twice at the Nats since 1964, changing it to the last 20 years removes our dependence on incomplete records of earlier nationals.
(Correction to original NOTE, Mike Gibbon remains ineligible for Novice if this is passed)

Proposal 2
The main point of (2) is also to prevent too many people disqualifying themselves form Novice in future. It will allow the following currently active drivers back in to Novice Falcon - Gordon Anderson, Michael Austin, Chris Covell, Phil Hemsley, Andrew Hogg, Trevor Tennant, Tom Wood

Nick Lake who becomes eligible for novice Falcon if both proposals are passed

(Confusingly the 4th grade was called Novice from 2004 and the 3rd grade was called Novice before 2004 – they are not the same thing. Novice is not a perfect name for this 4th grade, so we are considering changing it, the best name so far is Clubman but alternative suggestions would be welcome)
