1/32  Nationals 2008 Race Report 

1/24^th Nationals & Club Team Race Weekends 2009

The 2 above events have been arranged in the Blackpool area for this year at 2 locations originally investigated but unavailable for this year's 1/32^nd Nationals. Both are very good venues in towns just a few miles north of Blackpool.

VENUE

The 1/24^th Nationals will be held at The Thornton Little Theatre (formerly Lecture Hall prior to refurbishment for those of you that remember previous events held there), Fleetwood Road North, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancs FY5 3SZ  from Friday afternoon (practice only) July 24th until Sunday July 26^th.

The venue is approximately 3 miles from Fleetwood, 5 miles from the centre of Blackpool and about 2 miles from the seaside town of Cleveleys.
There is a large car park at the rear of the building.
Hot & cold food and drink will be available at the venue throughout the weekend.
There are a few shops in the immediate vicinity including takaways & a dining pub.


DIRECTIONS

Thornton is situated about 6 miles from junction 3 of the M55. Turn right from junction 3 onto the A585 which you follow signposted Fleetwood for about 6 miles. Watch out for The River Wyre pub on your left after about 5 miles. This is immediately followed by a roundabout where you continue to follow the A585 but at the next roundabout (with no landmark) about 1 mile further, turn right (3rd exit) onto the B5288 (Fleetwood Road South) signposted Thornton. After about 1/2 mile you will come to traffic lights with the theatre facing you. For parking go straight through the lights and take the first left behind the theatre into the car park.
For those staying at the North Euston Hotel, on exiting the car park turn right at the traffic lights and after a few hundred yards turn right at the roundabout by Morrisons. This brings you back onto the A585 to Fleetwood. Follow this road right into Fleetwood passing Fishermens Friend, ASDA and the P & O buildings. As the road begins to turn left onto the Esplanade by the tram terminus you will see the classic crescent shaped buidling of the hotel on your left.
For overseas racers Manchester is the UK's 3rd largest airport with flights from all over Europe and the rest of the world and is far nearer than any London airports. There are trains 24 hours directly from the airport to Blackpool North Station which is about 5 miles from the venue.

TIMETABLE

Friday 24 July - Track assembly from approximately 10.30am
                         Followed by practice (approx 5 pm)

Saturday 25 July - Production practice, qualifying and racing
                        Followed by Open Group 12 practice and qualifying
                        Followed by Open practice

Sunday 26 July  - Open Group 12  practice and qualifying (Sunday arrivals only)
                        Followed by Open Group 12 warm up and racing
                        Followed by Eurosport warm up, qualifying and racing
                        Followed by track dismantling

The organisers reserve the right to alter this timetable if they find it necessary

ACCOMODATION

As of on 4th June, the North Euston Hotel (mentioned below) which is only 6-7 mins. drive from the 1/24th Nats. Venue, Thornton Little Theatre have reasonable availability. If you stay 2 nights sharing a room it is £25 per head per night for full English breakfast to stay in this 3 star hotel. The same deal applies for the team race weekend when the track will be at the North Euston.
If you are not bothered with breakfast there is an offer on at the Blackpool East Premier Inn  10 miles away from the 24th Nats venue at the end of the M55 where Friday and Saturday nights can be booked for £58 all in.  where this is a very good deal at £14.50 a head although if you want breakfast there it becomes only £3 per head a night cheaper. 
If you want a cheap B&B there are 100's to be had in Blackpool for around £12-£15 and are betwen 10 - 25 mins drive away depending on location.

The deal is: Double or twin room rate 1 night £80 2 nights £100

Single room rate 1 night £70 2 nights £90

There are also some multiple bedded rooms available at the same £25 per person rate for 2 nights.

They expect the hotel to get fully booked for both weekends well in advance of the meetings as both are at a busy time so booking very soon is strongly recommended if you want to stay there.

The Production Challenge & National Club Team Race will be held at The North Euston Hotel, The Esplanade, Fleetwood, Lancs. FY7 6BN on Sat & Sun September 12^th & 13^th.
